Originally from Chicago, with the accent to prove it, Karen lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two kids. She is a certified literacy specialist, credentialed teacher, part-time entrepreneur, and full-time school administrator who has taught grades 7-12 at public and independent schools in New York City, Chicago, and LA for the past two decades.

For almost 20 years, Karen has been immersed in schools as a classroom teacher, instructional leader, and ed tech practitioner/consultant, helping students, teachers, and families leverage their strengths to achieve short and longterm educational goals.
Karen's straightforward, research-based approach to teaching and learning, as well as her contagious enthusiasm, sets her apart as an expert in the field and a trusted advocate for families and educators.

Karen speaks across the country at everything from national conferences to neighbors' living rooms. She consults for a variety of businesses, including edtech startups and family-friendly apps. She is also the founder of Bear & Bud Book Club, a collection of printable activity guides that pairs incredible books with cool crafts to inspire a love of reading in kids from pre-k to tweens.
